Made in the USA: Brands to Buy

Yesterday, I got an email about how many products, including food products, are now imported. The email was urging buyers to buy everyday products that are made in the USA. I started checking labels of products that I already have at home to share with you. If you are like me, when I'm shopping, I'm usually short on time and don't look at the label.

The products in the picture are all labeled Made in USA.

Citrus Magic: air freshener
Curel: my favorite hand lotion
Tresemme and John Freda: hair-styling products

I am assuming all products by these brands are probably made in the USA. I was disappointed not to find a point of origin on several top brand products I have in the house. They read "distributed by" but not where they came from. I will feature them in a future post.

As I keep checking products around my house, I will continue to share brands so the next time you are shopping and need to pick up a product, you know ahead of time it was made in our country. Or, at least, so the label says. And, if you have some Made in USA brands you want to share, please leave a comment.

Six Sentence Sunday July 29 The Baby Doctor

This week I decided to go romantic with a snippet from a contemporary romance I'm revising. This is the one that involves an abandoned baby, a doctor who hopes to gain custody of the baby and, of course, the baby's aunt who plans to raise him as her son. This is "first sight" for the hero, Aaron. The heroine is taking a drink from the water fountain at the hospital.

Disconcerted, he realized he had been staring at her as well as inhaling the sensual fragrance she wore. Amid the sterile medicinal scent of the hospital, she smelled like lush tropical flowers, beckoning him to escape. He moved quickly to the fountain to make it look as if that was why he had stopped in the first place. She walked away and disappeared into the ladies' room.
Suddenly, he was thirsty. He shoved down the button on the stainless steel cooler and cold water shot out the spout, splattering the lower half of his face.

Six Sentence Sunday: July 22: Laid to Rest

This Sunday I decided to go with a snippet featuring Richie and Tommy Ray from "Laid to Rest." Darlene has enlisted their help in sneaking the mayor's body home. Tomorrow, Richie and Tommy Ray are being interviewed on Veronica Scott's blog. Be sure to stop by and say hello to the guys. You might win a $10 Amazon gift card! I'll post the link in the morning.

Here's the snippet that starts out with Richie complaining to Darlene.

“You never said nothing about putting clothes on a dead man. That’s a job for the undertaker and I ain’t no undertaker.”
Curious, Tommy Ray edged closer to the bed. “We’ve done worse things.”
“Not that I can recollect,” Richie responded as he gave the mayor’s body a fearful glance. “My pappy always said the dead don’t bring nothing but bad luck.”

Six Sentence Sunday July 15

Switching gears today from humor to romance. This snippet is from  my current WIP, The Baby Left Behind, a contemporary romance featuring a doctor hero and the heroine, who is the aunt of an abandoned baby boy.

Right now, this is how the book opens. That may change as I work on it. You know how that goes!

He was nobody's baby.  A tiny infant down on his luck. He had come into this world too early.  Born amid chaos.
A late-afternoon collision on Interstate Forty involved two buses, filled with band students on a field trip, seven other vehicles, and an oil tanker.  Sixty-three victims created a disaster scenario for DeSoto Springs Medical Center.

Six Sentence Sunday: July 8

Here's a little snippet from "The Yard Sale," a humorous Southern short story. A couple of elderly Early Birds are paying Jennifer for their purchases and doing a little snooping, too

They both wore the same hairstyle. Puffy white-blonde curls sprayed stiff. My mother, a beautician, had produced that same look twenty-five times a day on Fridays and Saturdays for over thirty years.

"Aren't you one of Diane Turner's girls?"

"Yes, ma'am. I'm the youngest."

"Are you the one whose husband ran off with the preacher's wife?"

Thanks for stopping by! "The Yard Sale" is celebrating 2 months on the Amazon Best Seller List in Comedy. You can buy a copy here:  http://amzn.to/Jmog8Z
