Persistence Pays Off: A Writer's Dream Comes True

Congratulations to Cindy Nord on the sale of her Civil War romance, No Greater Glory, to Samhain Books. I'm so excited for her and what her sale represents for writers.

Cindy wrote a Civil War romance when the odds were against her ever selling it because of the setting. But, she wrote it anyway because it was a story she loved and wanted to tell. She entered it in contests. (The photo is of us at Moonlight and Magnolias where her story made the finals in the Maggie contest.) Cindy got an agent. She persisted with the kind of determination that all writers need and the belief in her work that so few of us maintain.

What can we learn from Cindy?  Hang in there and write the story you love. Now, writers have more opportunity than ever to do that with e-publishing and the market is open for great stories, even historical romances set during the Civil War. All you have to do is not give up.

Congrats! I'm glad Cindy's book found a home. :) Of course there is an audience for Civil War romance--"Gone With the Wind"! ;)

Thank you so much for your amazing support, Pat. I am flattered and humbled by your kind words. As I've mentioned to so many others...NEVER NEVER NEVER
give up on your dream. I didn’t…and thirty-two years, ten-months and twenty-five days after I first sat down in front of dad's old typewriter and breathed NO GREATER GLORY, Colonel Reece Cutteridge and Emaline McDaniels into life…my own dream finally came true.

Yes, we write about love and happily-ever-afters, and we blend this around conflicts & dilemmas, around decisions and disasters and goals. But I'm here to tell every single one of you...it's worth all the tears and toil, every dark, depressing drop of self-doubt; every disappointing rejection letter that only means we now have an invitation to submit elsewhere to find 'that special place to park our dream'. Though at times it's seems hard to do, enjoy the unpredictable ride & learn from every single bump along the way. But more importantly, never take your eyes off your goal. For when the world seems to shout 'GIVE UP'...we must listen to the hope our character whispers in our heart: "Please...just one more time, try for me."

Warmest regards,

Cindy

Cindy, thanks for sharing your story and mega congratulations on selling your story!

I love Civil War settings and read this genre a lot back in the day, along with Revoluntionary War books, which they say are no sell stories now too. Makes no sense to me. People will always be in love with a good story, no matter where it is set.

Wishing you the greatest success with Samhain!!! Congrats!!!!
