Six Sentence Sunday June 19th

This week, I'm back with another snippet from my WIP, Lady Silver, a historical romance set in New Orleans.  Background: The hero, Captain Jesse Cross, is in New Orleans with General Andrew Jackson's army in December 1814. He heads up military intelligence in the city.  The heroine, Nicole, is a French servant and she is working with a Creole spy ring while hunting for her mistress's runaway son. Keeping her identity a secret, she calls herself Lady Silver and she meets Jesse at night in a deserted courtyard to relay messages regarding the British.

Captain Jesse Cross listened to the cadence of her footsteps as she left the carriageway. The iron gate creaked as she went through it and vanished into the night. He longed to go after her. You have lost your fool mind? He leaned against the stone wall and gave his head a shake. How could he possibly be so intrigued by a woman whose face he had never seen?

Thanks for taking time to stop by and comment!  May you a great week and stay cool.

I can see it since was in New Orleans not long ago. Hasn't seen her face and has fallen - he has his priorities straight - we know she is a beauty anyway. Well done!

The mystery of the unknown will get them every time. Captain Cross is my kind of hero. Great six for him.

Bet he ends up following her.
And in the set up I love the oxymoron-military intelligence

Always a lovely thing to see, that moment where it's all in the heart and not the eyes. :)

Because she's so much more than a face. Never met a man yet who can resist a mystery. Yep, am liking this one.

I love the sounds in your six: the cadence of her footsteps, the creak of the gate. Lovely.

I'm sure not seeing her face is part of the intrigue. Beauty in the eye of the beholder and all that!

Always enjoy your snippets, and this week is no exception! Love it! Wish he'd go running after her, though! LOL

If he can hear the cadence of her footsteps, what is she walking on? Wood? Stone? Brick? I'd love just a smidge more information to really hear it ;)
